Renault XBA to compete against sub compact hatches in 2015
2015 Datsun Redi-GoRenault India plans to launch a new entry level small car codenamed as XBA. This upcoming model will be based on a Renault Nissan CMF platform shared with the new Datsun Redi-Go and will compete against sub compact vehicles Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano. The entry level XBA hatch has been spied on test near the Renault plant in Chennai and sports many similarities to the new Datsun Redi-go. It is expected to be the most affordable car from the French auto manufacturer and with this vehicle, Renault will follow in the footsteps of Nissan which launched the low cost Datsun brand. The XBA roofline was spied under camouflage, where it appears that it sports larger dimensions than the Redi-GO, resulting in greater interior space. The new Renault XBA will be powered by a new sub-1.0 litre petrol engine that is currently under development. As the hatchback will be targeting first time buyers in the country, it will not be fitted with a diesel engine. Its petrol engine will be mated to a manual transmission, though Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is also being considered.Renault XBA may be launched in India early next year and its prices are expected to range from Rs 3-5 lakh.
