At our first football game, I was amazed to see how much the track has continued to deteriorate. The rubber has gotten so thin on most of the track that some of the lines are barely visible. This is the least of the problems of practicing and running on this track.Last year the Batesville track athletes who had to practice on this surface were constantly battling chin problems which in several cases led to stress fractures in the lower leg. Two hurdlers fell on the track and both received concussions. The severity of these concussions kept them out for several weeks. This surface is basically now nothing more than running on asphalt.I am hoping that something is done before the next track season because the Batesville track program deserves to have a facility worthy of their talents. Right now it is close to being embarrassing. Last year it cost Batesville the privilege of hosting the conference which, by the way, they lost by less than 10 points.
