AMEZC, LAC Collaborate with Others in USA to Fight Ebola

first_imgThe leadership of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (AMEZC) in Liberia has launched what it terms “Collaboration at the Connectional Level,” with other Methodist churches in the United States of America (USA).  The collaboration meeting,  which was held in the US,  brought together the prelates of the AME Zion Church, the AME Church, the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CMEC) and the United Methodist Church.  “The collaboration is being launched under the auspices of the West African (W/A) Methodist Collaboration Against Ebola, the co-chair,” Dr. Benjamin D. Lartey said.  He made the disclosure recently when the AME Zion Church, through its Anti-Ebola Taskforce, distributed huge donations of food and non-food items to four other presiding elders’ districts in the country, valued over US$25,000. Of this amount, the 25 pieces of the electronic non-contact thermometers, one of which was donated to Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), contained 85 percent of the total cost of the intervention.  Items distributed included 25 pieces of the thermometers, several bags of 25Kg rice, buckets with faucets, gallons of vegetable oil, disinfectants, etc.  According to Dr. Lartey, districts that benefited during the Churches Task Force intervention, included Monrovia, Brewerville, Todee and Bomi. The Taskforce is headed by Mr. Osbert K. Newlands and co-chaired by Dr. Lartey. The Taskforce, Dr. Lartey said, was established to respond to the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in an aggressive manner. It also identifies with members of the various churches, aimed at eradicating the EVD from Liberia. “Our first activity was to cater to our churches and the members, and so the intervention was carried out in four of our districts,” Dr. Lartey disclosed. Under the Monrovia District alone, which Dr. Lartey spear-headed, churches that benefited included the Brown Memorial, Evangelical, Christ Temple, Bridgeway, Elijah, University, Full Gospel, Salvation and St. Philips. The members expressed gratitude to the leadership of the AMEZC in Liberia and the presiding prelate of the Western West Africa Episcopal District, AMEZC, Rev. Dr. Seth O. Lartey. The Todee distribution exercise was headed by Rev. Emmanuel F. Johnson I, while Rev. Melvin Kennedy led the team to Brewerville and Bomi respectively. Other churches that benefited were Annie Blackwell, Sardayah and Faith, Immanuel, New Century, God’s Power, Messiah Temple, Good Shepherd, Burning Bush and Bread of Life, among other churches.  Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
