Jaap Stam’s response when asked by talkSPORT if he’ll be at Reading next season

first_imgJaap Stam insists he has not been approached about leaving Reading this summer, though understands you cannot be sure of anything in football. The 44-year-old Dutchman, appointed last summer, guided the Royals to the Championship play-off final after finishing third in the regular season – though they were beaten by Huddersfield in the Wembley showpiece.Despite failing to reach the Premier League, Stam’s success has led to reported interest from top flight clubs, who are impressed with the coach’s excellent work with a team expected to amount to little this season.Speaking to talkSPORT following the final defeat, Stam was asked whether he will still be at the Madejski Stadium next season. He replied: “In football you can’t be sure of nothing [sic], but I still have a contract for another season.“There’s nobody who’s approached the club or myself.“You always talk about ‘we’, as ‘we’ work together as a club and the people within the club – it’s not only myself, but the technical staff and the team and everybody around it is doing everything in their power to make this club top a success and eventually get success as well.“If nothing is happening I’m, of course, still here. And like I said before, I still have a contract for another season, so at the moment I don’t really want to think about what’s going to happen.”last_img read more
