Starting today, June 10, the Indian Sluice Bridge on Route 308 in Yarmouth County will be closed to traffic during specific times of the day for repairs. During weekdays, the bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The bridge will be open at all other times and on weekends. The work, scheduled to be completed by Friday, June 21, weather permitting, involves replacing the upper portion of the timber deck and inspecting steel connections. “I want to thank the residents in advance for their co-operation over the next two weeks while repairs are made to the existing bridge,” said Maurice Smith, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. “I fully appreciate the closures might be an inconvenience, but the repairs are necessary while we continue our work to build a brand new two-lane bridge for residents and others who travel to and from Surette’s Island.” Residents, RCMP, fire, Emergency Measures Organization, Emergency Health Services and the CSAP school bus supervisor have been notified of the closure. The province is investing $13,533,445 to build a new bridge to replace the Indian Sluice Bridge. It is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2014. It is part of government’s 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan and the jobsHere economic development plan.
